  • Is data encryption used to store and transmit data?
  • What access rights security is implemented?
  • Is there any One-time-password/2FA security?
  • Where are the vendor’s data centres located? Singapore?
  • Is your data backup regularly, and/or can you do it yourself?
  • Are you able to get back the data upon service termination?

The PDPA legislation came into effect since 2 July 2014.

The PDPA establishes a data protection law that comprises various rules governing the collection, use, disclosure and care of personal data. It recognises both the rights of individuals to protect their personal data, including rights of access and correction, and the needs of organisations to collect, use or disclose personal data for legitimate and reasonable purposes.


2. Accessibility & Availability

“Can you access the system whenever and where you need it?”

You should look at the vendor’s commitment on their service level (SLA): 99.5% uptime for a 24/7 system means 44 hours downtime per year. Some vendors may or may not offer compensation for the downtime. Moreover, question for past occurrence of outages should be raised.

3. Help & Support

“Can you easily get help when you need it?”

Last but not least, support does play an important role when you are using cloud application. You should check what kind of help and support the vendor offers. Here are some questions for you to clarify with the vendors on their support.

  • How easy is it to reach them? e.g. dedicated hotline?
  • Are there any online help articles, FAQs, videos, etc.?
  • What is the vendor’s turnaround time for problem resolution?
